Title
A Post Medieval pin
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy-gilt dress pin of Post Medieval date (c. AD 1500 - 1600). The head of the pin is spherical with four raised tendrils radiating from the top and merging at the base of the pin head in a spiral or 'wrythen' pattern. From the base of the head the remains of the shaft of the pin are apparent. The shaft is attached to the head of the pin with a cylindrical collar and then terminates in a worn break just below the collar. In between each tendril is a line of seven filigree circles following the same spiral pattern from the top to the base of the head. Each of the tendrils is also adorned with small filigree circles following the line down from top to base. Some of the filigree decoration is missing due to wear. There is some evidence of gilding on the pin head.

Similar emaples of this type of decorative pin have been recorded on the database, including: DENO-B87E85; CORN-A899D0 and YORYM-E71267.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 23.94mm in length, 15.67mm in diameter and 7.36g in weight.
