Title
A Post Medieval lead alloy button, c. 16th century.
Description
English: A Post Medieval lead alloy button, c. 16th century. This button is solid and discoidal with a convex front and flat back and an oval shank (loop) cast integrally with the button. The shank is bent almost flat against the back of the button. There is an off-centre casting seam on the reverse. The front surface is decorated with a cast pattern. The pattern comprises a central ring and dot with radiating spiralling pairs of lines. There are transverse lines between each of the pairs of lines creating a ladder effect.

Similar buttons are illustrated in Read (2005:59-60) with a range of patterns on the front surface. Read dates this type of button to the 16th century.

Dimensions: thickness: 9.71mm; diameter: 15.29mm; weight: 4.25g.
