Title
A Post Medieval ivory knife handle with iron tang of blade (early 17th century).
Description
English: A Post Medieval ivory knife handle with iron tang of blade (early 17th century). The knife handle has been carved to form a three-dimensional human figure. One half of the figure is male and the other half is female. The male side wears a hat, beard and costume which ends just below the knee. One hand is clasped to his chest. The female side wears a dress with shawl over her shoulders and a beaded rosary at her hip. In her hand she holds a glove at waist height. The ivory is laminating, the details of their faces have been lost through the lamination. The majority of the iron blade is missing but the square-sectioned tang is still present.

Dimensions: length of handle: 89.13mm; width of handle: 20.87mm; thickness of handle: 17.48mm; length of blade: 77.44mm; width of blade: 10.74mm; thickness of tang: 6.36mm; total weight: 34.51g.
