Title
A Post Medieval copper alloy thimble dating 1500-1550.
Description
English: A Post Medieval copper alloy thimble dating 1500-1550. The indentations are sub-circular and have been hand stamped in a spiral pattern radiating from the peak of the thimble. Spiral patterns became known in the 16th century. Below the indentations there is a single linear border just above the rim. There is no evidence of a maker's mark at the end of the indentations. The shape of thimble is slightly distorted due to crushing but the peak is very flat and it is not certain if this is an original feature or a result of the damage.

Holmes (1988:1) illustrates similar thimble which he describes as heavy duty thimbles dating 1400-1550.
Dimensions: length: 16.11mm; thickness: 1.30mm; weight: 4.94g.
