Title
A Post Medieval buckle
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy double-looped buckle dating to the Post Medieval period (c. AD 1550-1650). The buckle has two oval shaped loops with triangular knops at opposite outside edges, where the pin would rest. Each triangular projection has an incised line just below the tip and another almost in line with the line of the outer edge of the frame. The central bar is slightly recessed and shows wear where the pin would once have been. At either end of the bar are two further triangular knops with incised lines across the tips. Only one of these triangular projections has the second line further down towards the frame. These triangular projections could represent acorns (see Whitehead 2003: 66 no. 406). The face of the buckle is rounded and the reverse is flat. The pin no longer survives.

Similar examples can be seen in Whitehead (2003: 65-6) nos 401 or 406.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 43.16mm in length, 58.59mm in width, 3.07mm in thickness and 12.08g in weight.
