A Post Medieval Book Fitting
Description
English: An incomplete two-piece book fastening dating to the Post Medieval period (c. AD 1600-1700). The object consists of an undecorated sub-rectangular plate with a hinge at one end and the remains of a hook at the opposing end. The sides of the plate at each corner are decorated with semi-circular cut-outs. The plate is attached to a hinged, sub-teardrop shaped openwork plate with a small rivet in situ just above the hinge and a second rivet hole in the diamond-shaped terminal at the opposing end. The rectangular plate can be classified as Howsam type A.5.1. The object has a dark brown patina. 

A comparable example can be seen on the database HAMP-4EF407.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 65.08mm in length, 17.38mm in width, 2.64mm in thickness and 3.76g in weight.
