Title
A Post-Medieval copper alloy spindle with pin.
Description
English: A post-Medieval copper alloy spindle, with separately cast pin and iron axis bar.

This axis bar has become cemented by rust. The pin and spindle are threaded around this axis bar and are also cemented in place. The pin is triangular in shape tapering to a rounded point. It is flanked on the axis bar by the attachments for the spindle.

The spindle tapers from the axis bar through its length before it comes to an old break. The spindle has a bend in it located near the break. On the reverse of the spindle there is a makers mark which is unclear due to corrosion but ends in the letter K. The object is now mostly brown in colour with bits of orange and green corrosion in places.

The spindle and pin measure 36mm in length, with pin measuring 19.3mm from axis attachment to tip and the spindle 19.7mm from the break to the tube. The spindle starts with a width of 23.3mm going down to 6.3mm at the break with a thickness of 1.5mm. The object weighs 3.78g.

Whitehead (2003,96 and 98) shows a very similar spindle, type III on page 96 and no. 610 on page 98.
