Description
English: A Picture of a Southern Town- Life in Wartime Reading, Berkshire, England, UK, 1945
A general view of the busy counter in the main Post Office in Reading. A number of clerks are working behind the grille of the counter, which runs along the length of the office. In the centre, several elderly ladies are sitting at a table and chairs. Many young men and women are queuing to buy stamps and the like. The original caption states that "Reading Post Office not only serves the people and industry of the town, but is the distributing centre for the Counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire... 107 sub offices are under the control of Reading's Head Postmaster, 74 of which are in rural districts".

This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.

Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag.
