Description

The Pale-Billed Flowerpecker a small bird, the size of a purple sunbird, maybe around 7-8 cms in length, but far less colorful or visible. For me, the key identifier of this bird is the very thin beak - the smallest of any bird I have seen so far. There is another cousin that looks very similar, the thick-billed flowerpecker - which is not very common though.

The bird is found in thick canopy areas which it prefers for security. The diet consists of small fruits, spiders and other small insects found on the bark. These birds are often photographed in the mouths of smaller predators like Orioles.

This shot was taken in the canopy of a large banyan tree that spanned around more than 50 ft in diameter. It had a number of small birds and was fun to watch the birds in action.
