Description
First edition of a milestone work in the history of chemistry, in which Dalton announced his revolutionary atomic theory and laws of definite and multiple proportions. As outlined by Dalton, these fundamental laws notably assisted the establishment of the composition and formulae of numerous inorganic and organic compounds and laid the foundation for the advancement of chemistry in the nineteenth century. The work is digitized here in its entirety and includes several engraved plates illustrating Dalton's symbols for atoms of various elements and their compounds. Widely known for introducing the atomic theory into chemistry, Dalton discovered his own color blindness through his botanical studies of flower hues which informed his research on color blindness.
