Title |
A Neolithic leaf-shaped arrowhead dating between 4,000 BC-2,200 BC. |
||
Description |
English: A flint leaf-shaped arrowhead (length: 27.3mm; width: 18.5mm; thickness; 5mm; weight: 2.47g). The surface of both sides has been pressure-flaked with knapping on the curved side of the lenticular cross-section , working from the centre and projecting outwards. The bulb of percussion can no longer be identified due to the flint being intensely worked all over. There is no large scale evidence of trimmed working along the edges and tips. The arrowhead is also broken at two opposite and diagonal ends. Leaf-shaped pressure-flaked arrowheads are the high point of the earlier English Neolithic flint industry. They usually have a flat or lenticular cross-section and are asymmetrical in shape, with the most common form having a rounded base and a roughly triangular tip (Whittle, 1977, page 75). |
