Title
A Modern Bag Seal (reverse)
Description
English: An incomplete lead bag seal dating to the Modern period (c. AD 1870-1940). The seal is sub-circular in plan with a stamped design on the obverse and reverse. The design on both sides is very worn and difficult to determine, though LONDON can be read at the bottom of the obverse, and the letters AFA are apparent in the centre at the top of the seal on the reverse. Similar modern examples of bag seals have been recorded on the database and have been attributed to sealing bags of guano fertiliser. These examples include record numbers CORN-266B57; PUBLIC-DB3757; and NLM-00F183.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 19mm in diameter and 7.42g in weight.
