Title
A Mediveal Lead vessel repair
Description
English: A lead vessel repair of probable medieval date (c. AD 1100 - 1500). It is roughly oval in plan and H-shaped in cross-section with two irregularly shaped outer sides, one larger than the other, joined by a smaller central section. The smaller side is concave in the centre and the larger convex. Within the groove created between the outer sides there is a fragment of the original pot. The pottery is a red brown fabric with frequent (c.20%) medium-coarse sand temper. It is 21.1 mm by 19.7mm, 9.9 mm thick and weighs 19.23g.

Pot mends of this form are found in both Roman and Medieval periods, as a common way to repair broken pottery vessels. The fabric and thickness of the pot wall appears similar to Medieval cooking pots although it is too fragmentary to be completely certain.
