Title
A Medieval thimble.
Description
English: The object is a late Medieval (1450-1550) thimble made from copper alloy. Holmes illustrates similar examples in figure 2a.
The thimble, in profile, has straight sides which taper slightly and it has a domed top. The rim is oval in plan due to it being slightly squashed. From the rim you can see the thimble is made from one shell. On the exterior the rim is undecorated. The indentations are positioned in rows, evenly spaced, but hand made. The indentations are conical shaped cells.

The surface of the thimble has red copper corrosion and there is no patina remaining. The thimble measures 21.9mm tall, and 25.8mm wide at the base. It weighs 5.37g.
