Title
A Medieval strap fitting
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy probable strap fitting dating to the Medieval to Post Medieval periods (c. AD 1250 - 1700). The fitting is oblong in shape with a squared off end at one terminal and a rounded end tapering into a flat T-shape at the opposite terminal. The centre of the object has openwork decoration consisting of a trefoil at the squared off end and below this a long keyhole shape. The squared end has one rivet in situ in one corner. The object has a mid-green patina.

Two objects with similar openwork decoration have been recorded on the PAS database with dates ranging from the Medieval to Post Medieval period thus helping to date the object described here. See record numbers: WILT-460067 and ESS-35590B.

The overall diensions are as follows: 41.84mm in length, 8.9mm in width, 1.27mm in thickness and 1.3g in weight.
