Title
A Medieval strap end
Description
English: A fragment of a copper alloy strap end dating to the Medieval period (c. AD 1200-1400). The fragment represents what is most likely the terminal of a composite strap end, which would once have comprised of two plates of sheet metal extending from the flat end of this example. The object in question is sub-triangular in shape with the pointed end forming the terminal of the strap end and the two sides extending from this terminal point slightly bowed. At the opposite end is a worn break. On the face of the object are three horizonal lines incised as decoration. On the reverse is a rivet in the middle of the object with a washer. On the reverse the break in the strap end is more apparent with the top sheet of the strap end projecting slightly above the sheet forming the rear of the fitting. This form is similar to no. 703 in Egan and Pritchard (2002: 147).

The overall dimensions are as follows: 12.52mm in length, 10mm in width, 5.61mm in thickness and 1.56g in weight.
