Title
A Medieval strap end
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy strap end dating to the Medieval period (c. AD 1300-1450). The strap end consists of two pieces of sheet copper alloy metal, welded together at the terminal and riveted at the opposite end. The strap end is roughly rectangular in plan. The terminal has been cut into a decorative end, consisting of a three petaled 'fleur de lis', with a small collar between the lis and the rest of the strap end. The space for the leather strap is still apparent. A small rivet is present at the top, which would have secured the strap end onto the original strap. The bottom plate of the strap end is cracked across the outer third.

Similar examples recorded on the database include: DENO-704BE0; GLO-14C6A5 and LVPL-7FC292.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 10.11mm in length, 45.21mm in width, 3.8mm in thickness and 3.11g in weight.
