Title
A Medieval mount
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy mount probably dating to the Medieval period (c. AD 1150-1450). The mount is in the form of a crowned lion statant facing outwards. The mount is in openwork relief with the back of the mount slightly concave. To the left of the lion's head are two rivet holes on the plate of the mount: one is broken and the other retains the rivet or pin. The opposite end of the mount, to the rear of the lion, are two worn breaks, which may have been a continuation of the openwork decoration. The mount has a mid-green patina and some traces of gilding.

Two similar styles of mounts have been recorded on the PAS database and both have been dated to the Medieval period: IOW-C796F1 and SUR-F52B24.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 18.48mm in length, 29.27mm in width, 11.65mm in thickness and 8.74g in weight.
