Title
A Medieval Token
Description
English: An incomplete lead uniface token dating to the Medieval to Post Medieval period (c. AD 1300-1700). The design on the obverse is uncertain but depicts two parallel curves lines joined at the top by a horizontal line, with a vertical line emerging from the centre of the horizontal line running to the edge of the token. There is also a pellet in the left filed and possibly one on the right htough this side of the token has broken away. The reverse is undecorated. The token can be classified as Powell Type 24. The token has a dark grey patina.

Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as use as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 16.45mm in length, 15.93mm in width, 4.02mm in thickness and 4.74g in weight.
