Title |
A Medieval Harness Pendant (front) |
||
Description |
English: A complete copper alloy harness pendant dating to the Medieval period (c. AD 1100-1400). The pendant comprises a tri-lobed convex body in the form of a bird in flight or 'displayed'. Extending from the top of the central lobe is the bird's neck, which curves back upon itself to form an integral suspension loop. The body of the bird is patterned with grooves to indicate feathers. There are also oblique grooves separating the body of the bird from the wings. The back of the pendant is flat and undecorated. A number of similar examples have been recorded on the PAS database, including PUBLIC-B6F6B8, WILT-0B0BB7 and IOW-B5BDA3.
The overall dimensions are as follows: 27m in length, 25mm in width, 5mm in thickness and 4.46g in weight. |
