Title
A Medieval Coin Weight (reverse)
Description
English: A complete copper alloy coin weight dating to the late Medieval to early Post Medieval period (c. AD 1400 - 1600). The weight is circular in plan. It is decorated on the front face with a ship in sail and a fleur de lis in the left field. The reverse face is undecorated. The object has a mid-green coloured patina across all surfaces.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 17mm in diameter, 5.4g in weight.

This example weighs 83.48grains (5.4g), the official weight was actually 120 grains, this discrepancy is likely due to the extensive abrasion around the edges and over the faces of the weight. Similar examples have been recorded on the PAS database, including: WMID-9CAA53; KENT-D97B00 and LANCUM-5810E6.
