Description

These Coucals are very common and often sighted scurrying into the bush in the countryside. However, sighting 3 of them together in one day is uncommon, that too in an open field unmindful of human presence. The birds were digging up the freshly dug up ground for insects and were busy. This one ventured pretty close and we took photos from inside the vehicle. These are a kind of non-parasitic cuckoo's and weak fliers preferring short bursts of flight from bush to bush. They eat insects, bugs and I had sighted them several times raiding nests to eat eggs. Not sure if they eat small chicks, but I wouldn't be surprised.
