Seeing the vintage washer at a car and tractor show in Greenup, Kentucky brought memories. We had an electric--moter--powered Maytag in my home. Our washer woman used the wringer to move clothes through two rinse tubs and then to a basket which she carried upstairs and hung outside to dry. To see how it worked: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XL5nnP7dySw Back in the 30's, several of my friends used the Maytag gasoline engines-- replaced when electricity became available-- to power small cars. |
