[edit]DescriptionA 1777 plan of Boston in New England with its environs by the British Military, (cropped from NYPL Hades-118256-54202).png |
![]() English: Shortened more tightly focused (cropped) map from this tall 1777 map generated during the Siege of Boston during the American Revolutionary War. • Key features almost uniquely seen, is the extent of mud flats in and around the various river estuaries entering Boston Harbor, • and the tiny footprint the much hillier town had in before the decades long land building projects of the 19th-century lowering/razing of the 'Tremont' (3 hills, beginning with Beacon Hill, which was left higher than the Copp's and Copley Hill summits) • and landfill from those used in the creation of the Public Gardens, Duck Pond, and vast swatches of today's neighborhoods near shorelines • such as South Boston, Roxbury, Brighton, Dorchester, and all of the w:Back Bay.
