Title
A 13th-15th century finger ring with engraved inscription.
Description
English: A cast copper alloy finger ring. At the top of the ring, the bezel reaches a height of 6mm. The stone/ gem is now missing, but the bezel is of considerable size (length: 5mm; width: 11mm).
An inscription runs along the shoulders of the ring from either side of the bezel nearly to the base. The inscription is indecipherable with each letter made up from one or more punched lines with serifs. Due to the position of the inscription on the shoulders, it would be difficult for the letters to make sense when read as they seem to get smaller nearer the bottom. It was probably intended to be a magical/ protective inscription. Overall height of the ring: 27mm; inside diameter: 20mm
