Title
A (probably) Roman copper alloy handle from a vessel, dating AD 43-410.
Description
English: A (probably) Roman copper alloy handle from a vessel, dating AD 43-410. The handle has an oval cross-section and it tapers to form a point at one end and the shape of the other end is an irregular blob; possibly due to expose to heat or it might be miscast. There is a groove extending along the midline on both the front and reverse of the handle. The surface of the copper alloy is rough with areas of a dark green glossy patina and large areas of a pitted mid green patina. This handle is heavy proportionate to its size, suggesting it is made from leaded bronze. If this was attached to a vessel, the vessel would have been straight sided.

Dimensions: length: 83.38mm; width: 16.37mm, tapering to 3.67; weight: 53.08g.
