English: NASA scientists are chasing seasonal changes during a world-survey of the atmosphere. The Atmospheric Tomography mission, or ATom, flew through the Northern Hemisphere summer last July and August, and now scientists are headed into winter aboard NASA’s DC-8 flying laboratory, seen here with inlets that direct air into the more than 20 scientific instruments aboard.
Scientists are interested in greenhouse gas pollutants such as methane and tropospheric ozone, and poorly understood particulates like black carbon. How these pollutants interact and move around the planet will help us better understand air pollution and climate change now and in the future. Read more: go.nasa.gov/2j9dDPJ |
