Summary

[edit]
Description

In Jan 1975 G-ASDC was converted to all-cargo configuration. With the passenger compartment and several layers of paint removed, the empty weight reduced and the payload increased. A minimal paint job served to identify BAF as operator, plug the 8.5 tonne capacity and proclaim contact numbers. Appropriately, G-ASDC was renamed ‘Plain Jane’ and is shown here at Southend on 13 Apr 1975. It was briefly leased to Invicta Airways in Oct-Nov 75 and was for sale by Jun 76. It finally went to Falcon Airways in 1979 as N80FA, passed through various owners and operators, including re-registry as N103 in Apr 83, until 28 Jun 1997, when with Great Arctic Airways it suffered a #2 engine fire shortly after take-off from Venetie, Alaska. The engine eventually tore out and fell into forest and the Carvair forced-landed on sandbanks in the Chandalar River near Venetie, where it was partially destroyed by fire and subsequently abandoned as economically unrecoverable.
