Summary

[edit]
Description

Carvair #5 was first briefly N9757F then LX-IOG with Interocean AW from 1962 until 1965, when it passed to Cie Air Transport as F-BMHV. In 1972 it was leased by British Air Ferries and named ‘Porky Pete’, then bought by BAF in Feb 1963, when it was ferried wearing the Aviation Traders Class B marks G41-1-73 before resuming its pre-conversion C-54A registration G-AREK. From Jun 1974 until Feb 76 it was leased to the construction company Pauling (Middle East) Ltd and I shot it with Pauling titles (in English behind the cockpit and Arabic on the fin on the port side, reversed on starboard) at Southend on 13 Apr 1976. In Jun 1977 it was delivered to Uni Air of Toulouse and registered F-BYCL. Sold in 1979 in the USA and registered N83FA, it was leased to Falcon Air and thence passed to various owners and operators ending with Custom Air Service in 1985. On 4 Apr 1997 it failed to lift-off at Griffin, Georgia, went through the boundary fence, ploughed into an unoccupied commercial building and was destroyed by fire.
