Description Apollo 16 Hasselblad image from film magazine 116/E - EVA-3. The lunar portable magnetometer (LPM) with sample 60335, a basaltic impact melt, sitting on it for an in situ measurement. The magnetic reading was negligible.
This photo is used in Figure 12-10 of the Apollo 16 Preliminary Science Report (NASA SP-315), which has the following caption:
Closeup view of the LPM sensor-tripod assembly deployed on the lunar surface during measurements of the magnetic field of a lunar rock sample. The sample has been placed on top of the sensor block by the commander.
