Description

Apollo 14 Hasselblad image from film magazine 64/LL - EVA-2.
Part of this photograph is Figure 3-39 of the Apollo 14 Preliminary Science Report (SP-272), which has the following caption:

Samples 14068 to 14072 and sample 14144 before collection.

The text of the Report states:

Samples 14068 to 14072. Samples 14068 to 14072 are documented small samples, all less than 50 g in weight, that were collected at station C’. In the presampling photograph (AS14-64-9126), the fragments appear to lie on the surface, between the MET tracks, at the northeast side of an 8- or 10-cm-diameter crater. This may be what the CDR referred to as a “secondary impact that disrupted the surface” and had penetrated the lighter gray material below. The small fragments resemble one another and may be pieces of a larger fragment broken by a low-energy impact. Probable correlations of the samples on the lunar surface (AS14-64-9 126) with LRL photographs are shown in figure 3-39.
