ARVN Ranger patch worn by an AATTV adviser at Duc My Camp

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Duc My, South Vietnam. August 1971. Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV) advisers based at the Ranger Training Centre at Duc My had been granted the privilege of wearing the Vietnamese Ranger insignia on their shirt sleeves. The honour is one in which the Vietnamese take considerable pride in giving and has to be approved by the Ranger Command in Saigon. According to Warrant Officer Class 2 Wayne Shennon of Mt Gravatt, Qld, an adviser, the insignia stemmed from Duc My being in an area frequented by tigers and a tiger shaped geographical feature which stands out from the mountains overlooking the Ranger Training Centre.
