VI Małopolskie Dni Dziedzictwa Kulturowego, czerwiec 2004 Archiwum, noszące obecnie nazwę Archiwum Państwowego w Krakowie, rozpoczęło działalność 2 września 1878 r. jako Krajowe Archiwum Aktów Grodzkich i Ziemskich w Krakowie. Po 1918 r. przyjęło nazwę Archiwum Ziemskie, a w 1936 r. Archiwum Państwowe. W 1952 r. włączono do niego powstałe w czerwcu 1887 r. archiwum miejskie Krakowa (Archiwum Aktów Dawnych Miasta Krakowa). Dzięki połączeniu zasobów tych dwóch archiwów zbiór Archiwum Państwowego stał się niezwykle bogaty. Znajdują się tu m.in. najstarsze plany i widoki Krakowa, grafiki, karty pocztowe i prasa konspiracyjna z okresu II wojny światowej. Do najważniejszych zespołów należą akta miasta Krakowa (od 1257 r.), staropolskie księgi sądowe grodzkie i ziemskie oraz historyczne archiwa rodów magnackich: Potockich, Lubomirskich, Tarnowskich i innych. Archiwum ma charakter otwarty i wciąż gromadzi materiały, przede wszystkim dotyczące historii miasta i regionu, a także dawnych ziem wschodnich Rzeczypospolitej. Pod względem wielkości zasobu i wartości zgromadzonych źródeł, archiwum krakowskie należy obecnie do najważniejszych archiwów państwowych w Polsce. Bogatą historię ma budynek przy ul. Siennej 16, który pełni dziś rolę głównej siedziby Archiwum Państwowego w Krakowie. Został on wzniesiony w latach 1761-1763 dzięki fundacji archiprezbitera kościoła Mariackiego Jacka Łopackiego, jako szpital ubogich parafii mariackiej pw. św. Rocha. Po przeniesieniu Kasy do nowego gmachu przekazano go w 1887 r. archiwum miejskiemu. Narożną kamienicę przy zbiegu ulic Siennej i św. Krzyża zaprojektował architekt Franciszek Placidi. Jest ona piętrowym budynkiem o skromnej i płaskiej dekoracji ścian, nakrytym mansardowym dachem z ozdobnymi lukarnami (okienkami oświetlającymi poddasze). Stojąca na narożniku budynku figura św. Rocha przypomina o pierwotnym przeznaczeniu kamienicy i fundacji archiprezbitera Jacka Łopackiego. Do wnętrza budynku prowadzi wejście obramione prostym, kamiennym portalem. W środku warto obejrzeć wewnętrzny dziedziniec ze studnią, pochodzącą prawdopodobnie z czasów budowy kamienicy, oraz fontannę z lat 30. XX w. --- State Archives in Kraków Today’s State Archives in Kraków (Archiwum Państwowe w Krakowie) originated on 2nd September 1878 as Krajowe Archiwum Aktów Grodzkich i Ziemskich w Krakowie (the National Archives of Municipal and Land Registry). After 1918 it was renamed the Archiwum Ziemskie (Land Archives), and in 1936 it became the State Archives. In 1952, another collection was added: that of the municipal archive of Kraków town (Archiwum Aktów Dawnych Miasta Krakowa), established in June 1887. Thanks to the merging of the collections, the State Archives today abound with a wealth of material. Featured here are the earliest plans and views of Kraków city, etchings, postcards, and underground publications from the second world war. The most important subsets of the collection include Kraków city records (from 1257), old municipal court files and land registers as well as annals kept by aristocratic families: Potocki, Lubomirski, Tarnowski and others. The archives are still open, and they continue to collect new materials, mostly on the history of the city and the region, as well as on the former eastern borderlands of the pre-war Polish Republic. Both in quantity and quality of material gathered here, Kraków’s archives are among the most remarkable State archives throughout Poland. The building at 16 Sienna St, today the main quarters of the Archives, has a history of its own. It was erected in 1761-1763 from the endowment of the head priest of Kraków’s St Mary’s church, Jacek Łopacki, to house the Saint Roch (or Roque) Pauper’s Hospital of St Mary’s Parish. During the confederation of Bar (1768), the building was annexed by the Russians for their military hospital; also in 1790 the city set up a hospital here. During the autonomous period, the building was used by the Kraków City Savings Society (Kasa Oszczędności Miasta Krakowa). When the Society moved to its new quarters in 1887, the building was given to the municipal archives. The house at the corner of Sienna and św. Krzyża streets was designed by architect Francesco Placidi. It is a one-storey building with a simple, flat wall decoration, covered with a mansard roof with dormer windows, letting daylight into the attic. St Roque’s statue in the corner stands witness to the original purpose of the building, and to priest Jacek Łopacki’s endowment. The entrance is a simple, stone portal. The inner courtyard is worth a visit, if only to see the well which most probably remembers the days of the building’s construction, and a 1930s fountain.
