| Description | The Anti-war memorial is located in Limerick City. Located on George's Quay in the city center the two piece sculpture represents the two sides of war. Created by Vincent Browne in 1987 the sculpture consists of two busts, one of a tyrannical powerful figure appearing tall and strong, the other of an unknown injured soldier, a victim of war. The sculptures stand on ten foot tall plinths facing one another on the Quay. The sculpture was a public commission and the hope was that the addition of this piece would promote public sculpture in Limerick. Four other pieces were also created at the same time by artists Tom Fitzgerald, Eileen McDonagh, Jim Flavin and Tracy McKenna. These pieces are located at the Potato Market and the Customs House, now the Hunt Museum. These sculptures were created as part of the Cultural Agreement signed between the Arts Council and Limerick Corporation. This was the first partnership between the Arts Council and a local council. |
