ANGLO-SAXON KNIFE
Description
English: Iron knife blade and tang. The whittle tang is about 25mm in length. The knife blade has an angled back about 4mm wide; both the front and rear parts of the back are straight. The tip of the blade is missing. The cutting edge is about 52mm in length.
This knife is of Evison's type 5 (Evison 1987, 113) or Ottaway's type A2 (Ottaway 1992, 562-4). It may date from any time from about 575 AD up to the Norman Conquest, or even possibly beyond.
