Description
English: A Signal Controlled Counter Mortar Radar AN/MPQ-4A commanded by CWO Rowland Smith at Song Be. CWO Smith is assigned to Hq Btry, 2nd Bn, 320th Arty, 1st Bde, 101st Abn Div, with ten personnel under his command. The counter Mortar Radar unit (AN/MPQ-4A), powered by a 12.5 KW generator, generates and transmits 2 beams of radio frequency. These beams are transmitted up to a maximum range of 10 kilometers. When a projectile breaks both beams it is indicated on a scope from which a computer analyzes origin of the projectile and gives appropriate coordinates. NARA 111-CCV-474-CC46476
