Vanaf 1652 verplichtte de VOC haar schepen te stoppen aan de Kaap de Goede Hoop om nieuwe voorraden in te nemen. De compagnie legde een tuin aan waar groente verbouwd werd om aan de schepen mee te geven.

Tegenwoordig is de oude compagniestuin een park in Kaapstad.

De kaart is afkomstig uit: 'Oud en Nieuw Oost-Indiën' van François Valentyn.

Op de kaart zijn legendanummers gegeven en verklaard.

>From 1652 onwards, the VOC compelled its ships to stop at the Cape of Good Hope to take on refreshments. The company established a garden where vegetables were grown to supply the ships.

Nowadays the old company gardens are a public park in Cape Town.

The plate is taken from: 'Oud en Nieuw Oost-Indien' by Francois Valentyn.
