English: Apollo 14's CPLEE.
A close-up view of the charged particle lunar environment experiment (CPLEE), a component of the Apollo lunar surface experiments package (ALSEP) which was deployed on the moon by the Apollo 14 astronauts. While astronauts Alan B. Shepard Jr., commander, and Edgar D. Mitchell, lunar module pilot, descended in the Lunar Module (LM) to explore the moon, astronaut Stuart A. Roosa, command module pilot, remained with the Command and Service Modules (CSM) in lunar orbit. View of the Charged Particle Lunar Environment Experiment (CPLEE) deployed and leveled at a postion northeast of the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiment Package (ASLEP) central station. The gold-colored broad ribbon that extends upward in the photograph is a multiconductor cable that connects the experiment with the central station. Images were taken by Astronauts Shepard and Mitchell during EVA 1 of the Apollo 14 mission. Original film magazine was labeled JJ, film type was S0168 (High Speed Color Reversal, Interior/Surface), 60mm lens with a sun elevation of 12 degrees. |
