| Description |
English: AFM image of the barbules on the Gorgeted Sunangel Hummingbird (Heliangelus strophianus). Plates on the surface are clearly visible. Inside these plate-like structures the structure generating the color resides. The plates are 3 μm thick, 1 μm long, and around 80 nm high, so they are too big for generating the colors themselves. |
