DescriptionAD-5W Skyraider of VAW-12 afloat after crash c1956.jpg | A U.S. Navy Douglas AD-5W Skyraider (BuNo 133764) of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 12 (VAW-12) Det.31 "Bats" after crashing off the port side of the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) after a loss of power during take-off. VAW-12 Det.31 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 10 (CVG-10) aboard the Coral Sea for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 13 August 1956 to 11 February 1957. Note that the engine has broken off. |
