Summary

[edit]
Description

British Post-war era Main Battle Tank Official Designation:- FV4007. A41. Tank Medium Centurion Mark 3 Manufacturer:- Various (UK) Total Production:- 4,423 (all models) Main Armament:- Ordnance QF 20 pounder According to the IWM website, this example was built in 1947 and was one of the first thirty Mk.III tanks completed. Her service history up until 1968 is unknown but she appears to have then been converted to carry VHF radios to demonstrate to potential Israeli purchasers. She finished her service career in the 1980’s as a Mobile Observation Post for the Proof & Experimental Establishment (P&EE) artillery ranges at Shoeburyness. She does not appear to have had any service upgrades or modifications during her career and is therefore believed to be the only surviving Centurion to accurately represent the type as they were fitted when sent to Korea in 1950. Part of the Imperial War Museum collection, I believe she is undergoing a long-term restoration to running order, with a lot of work already completed, but she is seen here while parked outside and uncovered. Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK.
