Description

British WW2 era Cruiser Tank Official Designation:- A34 Cruiser Tank, Comet Manufacturer:- Leyland Motors Ltd. Total Production:- 1,186 In service:- 1944 to 1958 Main Armament:- 77mm HV Tank Gun The Comet was a development of the Cromwell with a larger turret to allow fitting of the 77mm HV Tank Gun. The service history of this particular Comet is unknown but it spent the final years of its working life as a test bed with the Tank Development Unit at Chertsey. Now part of the Imperial War Museum collection, it has been painted to represent a Comet of the 7th Royal Tank Regiment when ready to be despatched to Korea from Hong Kong during 1953, although ultimately the war ended before they departed. It is seen on display in the Land Warfare Hall at Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK.
