Summary
[edit]DescriptionA3102 to Lyneham - geograph.org.uk - 1209295.jpg |
English: A3102 to Lyneham For some time now the coffins containing soldiers killed in the war in Afghanistan have been repatriated at RAF Lyneham a few kilometres west of here. They are then conveyed along this road and through Wootton Bassett where a tradition has developed of saluting the hearses carrying the coffins http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/7920358.stm is typical coverage. Someone, not local, came up with the idea of naming the A3102 the 'Highway of Heroes' as has been done in Canada in the case of a highway in Ontario http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highway_401_(Ontario) Thankfully in my view there has been little support for the idea. |
