Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Looking WSW from just above JFK Bridge .

I think much (possibly all) of this equipment is for the preparation of steel bridge surfaces before repainting them. This would involve abrasive blasting to remove rust and old paint, as well as the safe recovery and disposal of blasting dust and residue, since pre-1980 paint may contain toxic metals such as lead and chromium(VI), or hexavalent chromium. The JFK Bridge, opened in late 1963, was completely repainted in 1977. The next repainting project was started in 1999 and went through several contractors and a bribery scandal before completion in late 2007. . Ohio River mile 603. Louisville, KY. 12/10/2000.
