Summary

Description
English: The expected microcephaly cases depend on the attack rate, the birth rate, the population size, the non-Zika related microcephaly incidence, and the probability of microcephaly given a Zika infection in the first trimester of pregnancy. We used the probability of microcephaly observed for the French Polynesia 2013–2014 outbreak (0.95%, solid line) as the baseline for our calculations [15]. Our low and high estimates for the probability of microcephaly in Northeast Brazil (0.49% and 2.10%, dashed lines) encompass the estimate for the French Polynesian outbreak.
