Summary

[edit]
Description

A U.S. Navy Ling-Temco-Vought A-7B Corsair II of Attack Squadron 25 (VA-25) "Fist of the Fleet" and a Vought F-8H Crusader from Fighter Squadron 111 (VF-111) "Sundowners", background, launch from the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14). Both squadrons were assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 16 (CVW-16) aboard the Ticonderoga for a deployment to Vietnam from 1 February to 18 September 1969.

There were two "lasts" for the Ticonderoga and CVW-16: the attack carrier became an anti-submarine carrier (CVS-14) on 21 October 1969 and CVW-16 was disestablished following this cruise on 30 June 1970.
