Description

A Royal Australian Navy Douglas A-4G Skyhawk of VF-805 Squadron in flight.

The A-4G "886" (USN BuNo 154907) was lost at sea when it rolled off the deck of RAN carrier HMAS Melbourne (R21) on 24 September 1979. Melbourne was caught in a storm circa 350 km east of Australia when the ship suddenly rolled 20 degrees to starboard and the aircraft was lost.
