-time trappers failed to make good intheir expectations for the day, they would comehere and tell their tales of woe into this giantsear. At last the old man grew so tired of listeningto their troubles that he placed a tiny button (thelittle geyser) on one side, so that he could fastenthe flap of his ear over and turn a deaf ear totheir complaints. Under the rigid regulations, the park is in quietudein the wee, sma hours, but, strange to relate, thisis the time when the geysers disport themselves inwild abandon and seem most human in the responseto their various moods. These are the hours whenthey continue their work in building up their cal-careous deposits of silica, the chief mineral in thewaters of the geysers. The word geyser, is de-rived from the Icelandic word, geysa, meaning togush, and these were their gushing hours of ghoulishglee.
