Description

The 9K33 ‘Osa’ is a Soviet Surface-to-Air missile system which entered service in 1971 and remains in service with at least 23 countries worldwide. It is a short-range tactical system using six 9M33 missiles to repel low-altitude attacks. The system is highly mobile, with the 9A33 amphibious vehicle not only acting as both transporter and launcher but also carrying the radar system. The name ‘Osa’ translates as ‘Wasp’ This example is now privately-owned and is an upgraded 9K33M3 which increased the systems range to over 9 miles. It fired 9M33M3 missiles and had the NATO reporting name:- SA-8B ‘Gecko Mod-1’. Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK.
