English: Looking NE from wharf between 2nd St. and Bingham Way.
Steamer "Delta Queen" (doc. # 225875) docked. Ohio River mile 604. Louisville, Kentucky. 28-Apr-1999. File # 99d064. . The steamer "Delta Queen" was built in 1926 by the California Transportation Co. at Stockton, California. The steel hull plates and other steel parts were manufactured by William Denny and Brothers, Dumbarton, Scotland, and shipped to Stockton to be assembled there, while the wooden superstructure was built entirely at Stockton. The boat's name refers to the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, which is on the route between Sacramento and San Francisco. The twin boats "Delta King" and "Delta Queen" made alternating overnight trips between Sacramento and San Francisco, leaving at 6:30 PM and arriving the next morning at 5:30 AM. (The water distance between the cities is now shown as 108 miles, though some old records show 125 miles.) [from King and Queen of the River: The Legendary Paddle-Wheel Steamboats Delta King and Delta Queen, by Stan Garvey (3rd edition), River Heritage Press, Menlo Park, Ca., 2002] In 1947, the "Delta Queen" was brought from California to New Orleans via the Panama Canal and began her well-documented career on the Mississippi River system. As of late 2012, the DQ was owned by TAC Cruise LLC, an affiliate of Xanterra Holding Corporation, and was serving as a floating hotel in Chattanooga, Tennessee. There have been reports that the boat might be sold to a hotelier who would move it to North Smyrna Beach, Florida. . 6x9 cm color negative. scanned with Epson V500 flatbed scanner and Epson Scan software. edited with Picture Window 4 |
